Title: Eversea [Eversea #1]
Author: Natasha Boyd
Genre: New Adult, Contemporary Romance
Publication Date: June 4, 2013

An orphaned, small-town, southern girl, held hostage by responsibility and self-doubt.

A Hollywood A-list mega-star, on the run from his latest scandal and with everything to lose.

A chance encounter that leads to an unlikely arrangement and epic love affair that will change them both forever.

When his co-star and real-life girlfriend is caught cheating on him with her married and much older director, A-list hottie, Jack Eversea, finds himself in sleepy Butler Cove, South Carolina. Jack hopes the sultry southern heat in this tiny coastal Lowcountry town will hide him not only from the tabloids and his cheating girlfriend, but his increasingly vapid life and the people who run it. He doesn’t count on meeting Keri Ann Butler.

Keri Ann has relied on herself so long, dealing with her family’s death and the responsibilities of keeping up her family’s historic mansion, that boys and certainly the meager offering of eligible boys in Butler Cove, have never figured into her equation. But fate has other plans. Suddenly face to face with the man who played the movie role of her favorite fictional character, Jack has Keri Ann yearning for everything she has previously avoided … and Jack must decide whether this funny, sassy girl is worth changing his life for, before his mistakes catch up to him.

FOREVER, JACK_COVER_R3Title: Forever Jack [Eversea #2]
Author: Natasha Boyd
Publication Date: November 25, 2013
Genre: New Adult, Contemporary Romance

A feisty small-town girl and the Hollywood star who broke her heart

An all-consuming love threatened by fame

One last chance at FOREVER

Keri Ann Butler’s life changed on the night she met movie star, Jack Eversea. She thought she knew a Jack that was very different to the man adored by fans the world over. In the wake of his betrayal and abandonment, Keri Ann has had to pick up and move forward with the life she was supposed to live and has put off far too long.

Suddenly Jack is back, and his explanations for why he left seem more and more plausible, and his declarations more seductive. But being Jack’s latest tabloid accessory isn’t on Keri Ann’s career agenda, no matter how much she is attracted to him. And how can she can ever trust him again?

Jack knows he let the only ‘real’ thing that ever happened to him slip through his fingers. And his hands have been tied to try and stop it. Until Now.

Jack is now fighting to save his relationship with Keri Ann, even as his crazy life threatens to tear them apart. Again. The question is, can he convince her she can have it all? And have him? Forever?

The beginning of this book was crazy intense, like OMFG WHAT JUST HAPPENED, kind of intense. On one hand, I’m exceptionally pleased with how Boyd spun the whole separation thing, and the reasons for it. However, it was, once again, one of those sequels where there’s just a little too much pining and very few attempts to do anything about it.

I was not pleased that most of the book was spent in a depressing slump, for not just Keri-Ann, but also Jack. Sure there was definitely determination, but there was a lot of “should I trust him?” and “he doesn’t love me anymore” and “has she moved on?” I get that that was a big part of the story, how regaining that trust was a must, but I feel like this whole love interest disappearing for 90% of the second book has been used one too many times.

In addition, I felt like there was a little bit of a repetition of the first book, where Jack’s once again trying to prove his worth and gain Keri-Ann’s trust. However, I liked that there was a lot more character development with regards to this. Keri-Ann still liked Jack, but she didn’t want to stand in his shadow, or only be in the spotlight because of his name. I loved that she was still trying to find herself throughout the novel, and gained more and more confidence in herself and in her work. I also liked that we got to delve into Jack’s past a little, getting to learn about his family, especially his mother, and little bits about him and his father. While I would have liked to learn more, I’m actually kind of happy that it wasn’t that kind of soul-wrenching digging into the deep depressing stuff kind of story, kind of holding true to the overall mood of the series.

I actually really liked the plot. It was a great way of keeping them apart, despite my animosity to the separation in itself. Often times, it’s the fact the one or the other is keeping themselves away, but I think the concept that Boyd came up with was pretty clever, though slightly frustrating. I was extremely pleased with how the separation make the two characters grow, as well. It really gave some perspective to the story, and by the end of the book, I loved that they found themselves, apart from their relationship. I appreciated that they put their work, their dreams, and their goals above their relationship, or at least they held them at the same level. So many books these days have the characters toss all that out of the window in the name of love, and I liked that this book was realistic and not overwhelmingly lovey-dovey.

Overall, a fantastic sequel to EverseaForever Jack will bring you back into Jack and Keri-Ann’s world, and take you on a journey through pain, love, and self-actualization. Well written, well executed, a great finale to their story.

  1. I’m very curious about this series after reading all the reviews. I think I’d really like it and I like the separation bit that sounds like a different way to tell a story and even though it would definitely frustrate me too I like how it seems to really make the characters grow! Great review!
